What We Offer
The YMCA Progressive Aquatic Education Program is
based on the AquaSafe Progression, which has been jointly developed
by the Royal Life Saving Society and the Victorian Council of
YMCA’s. The program aims to give each participant a complete
aquatic education focusing on
water safety
and stroke
development.
The foundation of the YMCA program is our commitment to personal
development which comprises the
physical
(e.g. skill acquisition),
intellectual
(e.g. problem solving) and
values
(e.g. co-operation and enjoyment).
Pre-School Aquatic Education Program
Our qualified
Aquatic Education Instructors gently guide both parent and child
through each lesson to introduce the child to the aquatic
environment and assist in varied aquatic skills. Parents
MUST join their child in the water for the SHRIMP,
PERIWINKLE, MINNOW and TADPOLE pre-school classes. This
benefits the child by providing individual assistance and it also
aids in creating a positive parent/child experience. Pre-schoolers
should be dressed in firmly fitting swimwear.
Aquaplay
This unstructured
water play group is an ideal way to introduce your infant or toddler
to the aquatic environment before enrolling in formal lessons.
Parents are required in the water with their child. Classes are
held on Monday 12.15pm and Sundays at 10.30am. Payment is casual.
Primary Program
The progressive
primary learn to swim program encompasses the teaching of swimming
technique, water safety, survival skills and overall aquatic
enjoyment.
Blue Fins Club
This is a forty-five
minute learn to swim class specifically for teenagers.
Adult Classes
It’s never too late
to learn to swim. The adult classes are friendly, enjoyable,
informal lessons catering for the total beginner or for those
wishing to re-learn their skills.
