YMCA
Aquatic Education
The YMCA Aquatic Education
Program presents a unique opportunity for participants to develop
skills and share experiences in Aquatic Education. The AquaSafe
Aquatic Education program is specifically tailored to take into
consideration the age and ability of all participants. Not only will
participants develop swimming, water safety and personal survival
skills but they will also develop friendships, become an important
member of their group and be involved in encouraging others. We also
run Squad classes with participants being able to choose
swimming as their lifestyle sport.
Infant
Program-Age 6months to 3.5 years
Water familiarisation
classes that encourage infants to explore the aquatic environment.
Parents participation is required to help develop social interaction
and water familiarisation with the assistance of our qualified
teachers. Class Duration 30 minutes
The YMCA AquaSafe Infant Program:
* Emphasises bonding between parents and children.
* Develops parent & carer knowledge and understanding of aquatic
environments.
* Teaches parents how to care for children in aquatic environments.
* Introduces infants to water.
Pre
School Program-Age 3.5 years to school age
Children are placed in
these classes according to their ability and aquatic experience.
Parents are not required in the water for these classes, however for
first timers or children who are not so confident this may be
required at the teachers discretion (but is highly recommended).
Class Duration 30 min
The YMCA AquaSafe Preschool Program:
* Prepares students for further aquatic experinces.
* Educates parents and children for safe practices in aquatic
environments. * Creates a supportive environment for introducing
stroke development and water safety skills.
All
Abilities Access Program
Access classes are 1:1 and
are available to individuals with additional needs. Application to
these classes must be made to the Aquatic Coordinator at the Centre.
Class Duration 30 minutes
School
Aged Program-Primary school age
Participants are grouped
according to ability and encouraged to achieve their personal best.
The program is based on elements of:
* Personal and Intellectual Development
* Water Safety & Stroke Development
* Fitness & Fun
There are 8 progressive primary aged levels:
Octopus (Beginner), Shallow Salmon, Deep Salmon, Tuna, Eel, Flying
Fish, Dolphin and Shark. Class Duration 30 minutes
Development Squad
This program is aimed at
participants that wish to choose swimming as their lifestyle sport
or participants who want to advance their swimming however feel they
are not ready for club. The program is aimed at participants who
have a sound knowledge of most swimming strokes.
The YMCA Squad Program:
* Incorporates character and personal development.
* Increases understanding of how and why we swim.
* Develops skills, strength, endurance and fitness concepts.
Adults &
Teen Program
Adults are defined as 16
years and over. The adult program is ability driven with 2 class
types to meet your needs. The adult program is not just about
learning to swim, but enjoying the aquatic environment in a safe
manner. The program is based on the needs of each individual. The
teacher will be able to adapt their lessons to suit all
participants. If there is something you would like to learn please
do not hesitate to ask. Class Duration 45 minutes
Aqua Play
is a fun filled
water-based playgroup for infants and toddlers.
Each session is
comprised of nursery rhymes, aquatic toys, games and lots of fun.
The program also gives mums, dads and carers the opportunity to
enjoy the support and interaction of other adults involved in the
program.
Who facilitates Aqua
Play?
All sessions are
conducted and supervised by an experienced and qualified member of
staff, however they are not considered a structured swimming lesson.
The session is predominately based on exploring the aquatic
environment through social interaction.
Who is Aqua Play
for?
These interactive
group sessions are designed for infants, toddlers or pre-school
children who want to experience water play in a safe happy
environment. We do not recommend infants under 6 months participate
in the program.
Parents must accompany their child in the water.
Also could parents & carers please note that nappies cannot be worn
in the water and that snug fitting bathers are essential. Suitable
swimwear for this age group is available for purchase at the counter
at Aquarena.
When is Aqua Play?
Classes are held
Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.15am - 9.45am during school term only.
Bookings are not required. Childcare facilities are available whilst
sessions are in progress. Please contact us for more information.
The Manningham YMCA, managers of Aquarena believe early introduction
to the aquatic environment can enhance a child's desire to
participate in swimming lessons and recreational aquatic activities
in the future.
Creche/Occasional Care
Available Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.00am-12.30pm, Wednesday 9.00am
–2.00pm.

Weekly 1/2 hour lesson plus pool access
